Last month, a client in Germany told me he'd been selling "OEM" shuttlecocks for two years. When I asked to see his product, it was a generic white-label shuttlecock with a sticker logo.
That's not OEM. That's white label. And it matters โ because the two models give you completely different margins, different brand control, and different long-term business outcomes.
The Three Models, Defined from the Factory Floor
White Label: The "Off the Shelf" Option
You walk into a factory and say: "I'll take your standard shuttlecock. Put my logo on it."
The factory has a pre-existing product with fixed specifications โ fixed feather grade, fixed cork type, fixed tube dimensions. You can change the printing on the tube. You can change the sticker on the cork. That's it.
MOQ: As low as 100-200 tubes at some factories.
Your margin: Thin. If three other brands are buying the same base product from the same factory, you're competing on price alone. Amazon is full of white-label shuttlecock brands racing to the bottom.
OEM: You Define the Product
You come to us with specifications. Or you come with a problem โ "I need a shuttlecock that sells for $18/dozen in the Netherlands, flies true in humid indoor courts, and comes in eco-packaging" โ and we build the product to match.
Every variable is yours to define: feather type (goose or duck, full-round or selected), cork composition (natural Portuguese, composite, or hybrid), thread binding pattern, tube material and wall thickness, printing specifications.
MOQ: Typically 500-2,000 tubes depending on the factory and the complexity of your spec.
Your margin: Significantly better, because the product is harder to copy. A distributor can't just go to the next factory and get "the same thing" โ your spec is unique.
Private Label: You Own the Brand, We Do the Work
This is OEM taken one step further. You own the brand IP. We manufacture to your spec. The product lands at your warehouse with your branding on every surface โ cork, tube, master carton, even the packing slip.
Some factories (including ours) offer design support โ if you have a logo but no packaging designer, we can produce tube artwork from your brand guidelines.
Why This Decision Matters More Than You Think
I've seen white-label brands build to $50K/month on Amazon and then collapse overnight because a competitor ordered the same base product from the same factory and undercut them by 15%.
I've also seen OEM brands start with 1,000 tubes, reinvest profits, and grow to container-load orders because their product was genuinely different โ and their customers noticed.
The model you choose determines whether you're building a brand or running an arbitrage business.
What We Actually Offer at Kuzo Packing
We do OEM and private label. We don't push white label โ not because there's anything wrong with it, but because our factory is set up for customization, not off-the-shelf. Our MOQs start at 500 tubes for standard specs, higher if you need custom cork or feather specifications.
And here's our real differentiator: we make the shuttlecocks AND the tubes in the same factory. Your logo goes on the cork and on the tube. The Pantone color on the cork label matches the Pantone color on the tube print. One QC team inspects both. One shipment. One invoice. No coordination between two different factories.
If you're trying to decide which model fits your budget and market, send me an email with your target country and price point. I'll tell you honestly which path makes sense for where you are right now.
